Gravenstein Apple
Description
A large sized apple that is yellow-green, streaked with red; an excellent dessert or cooking apple; needs a second pollinator; ideal for home landscapes, needs well-drained soil and full sun. Apple trees are not self-pollinating and require second apple tree (of a different variety) to produce fruit. Having two or more apple varieties with overlapping bloom periods will help ensure better pollination and fruit production.

Gravenstein Apple features showy clusters of fragrant white flowers with shell pink overtones along the branches in mid spring, which emerge from distinctive red flower buds. It has forest green deciduous foliage. The pointy leaves turn yellow in fall. The fruits are showy chartreuse apples with a red blush, which are carried in abundance in mid summer. The fruit can be messy if allowed to drop on the lawn or walkways, and may require occasional clean-up.
